Mumbai And Monsoon Terror
Rain terror is not a new phenomenon for the Mumbai city. Every year, water showers fire on the city leading to loss of life and property. This year the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has declared 272 buildings unsafe because of possible landslides due to the heavy rain lashing the city. Those residing in these buildings have been asked to evacuate.
The areas that have been marked under the landslide-prone areas include, Rajeev Gandhi Nagar, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, Goregaon (East), Teen Dongri, Goregaon (West), Ambedkar Nagar, Goregaon Mulund Link Road, Goregaon (East) and Upper Govind Nagar, Goregaon Mulund Link Road, Goregaon (East).
A wall separating a slum and a building construction collapsed on the slum in Thane, leading to death of eight people including two children. After the incident, 37 people have been shifted to a safer location.
Waterlogged streets, train services hit and flight delays created a great chaos for the Mumbaikars. Worst affected in the downpour were flights with airport operations going into a tailspin.
Visibility fluctuated through the day, because of which flights into the city were late by 45 minutes while flights out were delayed up to three hours. Departures are now is on time. Closing the short runway only added to the delays.
A part of tree fell on the track and disturbed the services on the Western Railway Line.
To ensure public safety and convenience National disaster management teams were stationed at various places of the city.
Apart from Mumbai, other Maharashtra cities too reeled under the impact of the Monsoon rain. Rain-related incidents across the Maharashtra recorded a figure forty-six dead.
The weather bureau forecast heavy rainfall with strong winds and thundershowers in parts of city and suburbs over the next 24 hours. Between June 13 and 17, there will be tides measuring between 4.58 metres and 4.73 metres. In that case, ‘picture abhi baaki hai mere dost’, there is lot more upheaval to happen.
